AVP, Legal Counsel The candidate will collaborate with attorneys and compliance personnel across office locations, as well as personnel in Operations, Finance, Investments, Technology, HR, Marketing and other functional areas within the organization. Negotiate and advise on various types of commercial agreements, including but not limited to software licenses, technology service contracts, third party administration/business process outsourcing, consulting, banking/custody, and other types of counterparty agreements. Negotiate and advise on nondisclosure and other transactional agreements. Assist with various corporate governance initiatives, including the development and implementation of policies and procedures and internal controls, drafting resolutions, Board governance matters, etc. Take a leadership role with respect to records management and information governance initiatives, including records retention policy and related implementation framework. Assist with various intellectual property matters, including trademark searches, registration applications and related issues. Research on legal, regulatory and compliance issues. Manage outside counsel as necessary. Assist with ad hoc projects, special project work, and Legal & Compliance Department initiatives. Collaborate with senior business leaders and members of the Legal & Compliance Department with respect to contracting, corporate governance and other matters. Build and maintain partnerships with internal business stakeholders and colleagues within the broader Legal & Compliance community across Global Atlantic.

QUALIFICATIONS: JD Degree and 2-3 years of experience in the practice of law, preferably in the financial services and/or insurance sectors; previous in-house experience a plus. Excellent academic credentials and references. Ability to draft and understand complex agreements and transactions. Ability to develop expertise, advise on and provide support with respect to a variety of general corporate, commercial contracting, and intellectual property initiatives. Ability to make decisions, use independent judgment, establish priorities and work effectively on multiple initiatives concurrently. Capacity to consider, process and filter large amounts of complex information quickly and identify appropriate actions in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work across the enterprise and present complex matters to senior business leaders. Ability to work with a geographically dispersed team. Exemplary communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Motivated self-starter, strong work ethic, high level of personal integrity and accountability, and demonstrated level of maturity, discretion and judgment. Team player - collaborative, enthusiastic and results-oriented. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and legal research tools (Westlaw, LexisNexis, etc.).
