Corporate Attorney/In-House Counsel

Corporate Attorney/In-House Counsel The candidate will assist in overseeing corporate legal matters pertaining to the organization including corporate, compliance, regulatory, governance, copyright, intellectual property, and employment law matters. Will assist in collaborating and partnering with internal departments to provide timely, accurate, and practical legal counsel for their specific needs including support for: The Compliance Department with the interpretation and implementation of regulatory or legislative directives. The Human Resources department on any and all needs related to employment law. The Credit Risk department to assess and minimize risk of loss through member loans. Maintain a thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to credit union compliance, including federal and state consumer compliance laws and regulations. Foster a positive and engaging work environment by promoting skill development, coaching for improvement and growth, inspiring others through your words and actions, ensuring positive employee morale throughout company, and embracing our mission, vision and core values. Assist in the direction of all corporate governance activities for the Credit Union to ensure polices, structures, and procedures reflect best practices comply with all federal and state regulatory requirements. Keep apprised of changes in law and regulations for corporate matters and adapt business practices as needed. Assist in the supervision and monitoring of work performed by outside counsel, including litigation. The candidate should have JD Degree from a Law School accredited by the State Bar of California or the American Bar Association. Must have License to practice law in California via successful completion of the California Bar Examination or the California Attorney's Examination. Should have 3+years of experience practicing corporate law either in-house or with a law firm, preferably with a national or large regional law firm. Should have 3+ years of experience counseling clients in the financial services industry. Prior Credit Union experience and experience with a financial institution subject to examination and oversight by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is desired. Prior experience advising clients on consumer compliance matters is preferred. Overall comprehensive legal knowledge (labor law, marketing/advertising law, litigation, corporate law) is plus.
