Senior Counsel Global Employment, Labor Relations & Benefits Law Duties: Advise human resources and other internal clients on the legal rights and obligations of the Company on a broad array of employment and labor relations law, benefits issues, and workplace safety law. Primarily responsible for support of human resources in the U.S. with oversight and coordination of issues arising internationally. Develop and implement employment, labor, benefits and safety related policies, best practices and procedures globally. Develop and implement training programs on a variety of topics for human resources and the business. Provide health and welfare plan counseling and qualified retirement plan counseling. Ensure compliance regarding Plan filings (IRS, DOL), document requirements (including plan document maintenance and amendments, SPDs/SMMs, SARS), responding to periodic DOL, IRS and internal audits, HIPAA and ACA compliance. Provide real-time support to internal collective bargaining teams during union negotiations and work with Corporate Labor Relations to develop bargaining strategy in advance thereof. Responsible for project and matter management with limited supervision; exercise independent judgment. Manage employment claims and litigation. Share in management of outside counsel relationships. Provide counsel in transactions/due diligence issues in which employment, labor and/or benefits issues arise. Act as trusted advisor for mid to high-level management; has strong grasp of business environment; effectively partners with clients to identify and design needed improvements; provide legal as well as practical advice within the appropriate business context; understand and manage client expectations. Assist in development of legal strategies for business. May influence or contribute to overall objectives and goals of organization. Provide support and leadership in legal department projects. May supervise and/or mentor one or more junior lawyers, paralegals or administrative assistants. Act as a resource to others and a member of a global team.

Qualifications: Degree in Law. License to practice law in at least one jurisdiction. 10+ years' experience of substantive employment, labor, benefits & safety matters required either in-house with a corporation or in private practice and a mix of experience preferred. Deep understanding of the full gamut of employment issues faced by U.S. companies including, but not limited to harassment, discrimination, retaliation, leaves of absence, compensation and disability issues and accommodations. Global experience preferred. Experience serving as primary internal point of contact for legal issues related to health and retirement benefits. Traditional Labor experience preferred. Demonstrates proficiency in substantive legal specialty and general knowledge of legal issues affecting the industry. Manages risk wisely. Helps business partners understand the risks and consequences of a given situation. Effectively communicates consequences and develops alternatives to manage identified risks. Exercises good judgment and wise decision making. Capable of handling multiple tasks and activities across a variety of challenging situations in a busy global environment.
