Senior Counsel Employment & Operations The candidate will oversee the research of questions of law for various functions and formulate recommendations to the VP, Associate General Counsel-Operations for consideration as legal positions of formal legal opinions and policies for the Company. As assigned, manage independently within the legal policy guidelines, the legal issues arising from a functional activity of the company or for a community. Support the human resources staff with daily advice concerning offer letters, discrimination claims, disciplinary matters and the like. Manage outside counsel for employment law claims and litigation. Create and give training to HR and Operations business partners. Provide regulatory counsel for licensing of a CCRC, support sales staff with approved resident documents and training programs. Provide comprehensive legal advice to a community as its on-site or corresponding counsel. Review and draft contracts for operating communities. Provide legal support for the development of a new community, including by way of example, review of licensing requirements, formation documents for the new community, or similar. Act as the direct liaison with outside counsel on a matter of pending litigation or threatened litigation to manage the cost of such litigation and to provide for the best possible chance to procure a positive result in such a matter. Assist in the planning of legal department budget allocations and the budgets for outside legal service budgets as part of the annual business plan cycle. Graduate of an accredited law school is required. 7 - 10 years of experience focused on employment and operational matters required.
