Banking Operations Corporate Counsel II- III The candidate will report directly to an Assistant General Counsel and will provide legal support to the Engineering business unit of BBVA Compass, including the areas responsible for fraud and information security. Will require the ability to work with various Engineering groups, others lines of business, and compliance personnel. Provide legal services and counsel to clients in relation to laws and regulations concerning operational issues related to a financial institution. Identify and analyze complex or novel matters, develops conclusions, makes recommendations, and provides reliable advice. Assign the appropriate degree of importance to issues and can formulate and carry out research and investigative strategies. Work directly with Engineering and business clients and develops an understanding of unit needs and products. Contributes advice and counsel on policy and procedures. Counsel management whenever legal decisions or plans are being made or when changes in the law occur. Work assignments consist of major legal tasks involving problems of recognized complexity and facts that are occasionally in question for which considerable legal judgment, experience, and independent reasoning are required. Ability to learn technical aspects of the banking industry and emerging FinTech companies. Draft, review, and edit legal documents and materials. JD degree (excellent academic credentials) from an accredited law school and State Bar license/certification is needed. Must have Four-year college degree (excellent academic credentials). Strong verbal and written communication skill is needed. Should have 6-12 years of legal experience; in-house financial institution or large law firm experience; experience working with banking clients, operational issues, contracts and other complex legal documents. Experience with cyber security, fraud, or banking operations knowledge is preferred. Background in bank operations, cyber/data security, fraud, and/or financial industry technical issue is needed.
