Employment Legal Counsel

Employment Legal Counsel The candidate will leverage their prior law firm and in-house experience to effectively partner with other members of the legal department and Human Resources to create internal best practices on managing employee relations matters, oversee the work of outside counsel in employment cases and advise on external agency cases as well as internal employee relations investigations. Serve as the legal advisor on all major employee relations matters throughout the US. Provide counsel and direction to the Human Resources Department and Compliance for investigations on employment law and employee relations concerns. Proactive review of employee relations handling to assist in legal/compliance matters. Provide advice regarding potential employee disciplinary actions and terminations. Represent the company before Federal and state agencies (i.e., EEOC, DOL, etc ), including preparing position statements on employee relations inquiries. Manage federal and state litigation, administrative proceedings and arbitrations involving employment law matters, including management of outside counsel, risk assessment, oversight of case discovery and case resolution. Conduct ongoing training of management on employee relations best practices and investigation techniques and compliance in partnership with the human resources department. Participate in the definition and development of employee relations policies, procedures and programs and provide continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters and on legal implications on employee relations matters. Must have BS, JD degree and a member of the Bar in good standing in at least one state with the ability to practice law in North Carolina. Should have 8+ years of related law firm and in-house legal experience. Experience in both a law firm and in-house is preferred. Experience with and knowledge of employment laws across the US is required. Recent and substantial experience managing matters in employment litigation, and Federal and state administrative agency proceedings (e.g. EEOC, DOL, etc.) and arbitrations is needed.
