Legal - Senior Counsel - Bankruptcy Legal Group - AVP Duties: Providing legal support to Card Services bankruptcy operations, including supporting all actions taken in a customer bankruptcy case to protect or preserve Card s claim. Ensuring business processes and procedures comply with bankruptcy legal requirements, regulatory guidance and internal policies. Partnering with the business and corporate functions to provide in-depth analyses of changes in law and assisting in the evaluations of the possible effects of the changes to business processes or procedures. Assisting in reviews and revisions of bankruptcy, collections litigation and sworn document procedures. Assisting with preparation for committees and working groups, and executing on meeting take-aways. Reviewing outgoing correspondence for legal and factual issues. Providing support to special projects and cross-line-of-business matters touching bankruptcy legal requirements. Collaborating with compliance on changing legal requirements and impact.

Qualifications: JD Degree required from ABA accredited law school and current license applicable to practice law in a United States jurisdiction. Attorney must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction. 3+ years of bankruptcy legal experience; consumer financial services experience preferred. Strong knowledge and understanding of complex bankruptcy legal framework, including the United States Bankruptcy Code and Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure. Knowledge and understanding of bankruptcy legal issues impacting unsecured creditors, including issues relating to compliance with the automatic stay and discharge injunction and filing proofs of claim.. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong legal research skills on a variety of databases including Westlaw and/or Lexis. Strong organizational skills and the ability to drive complex projects across multiple lines of business. Team player who can collaborate within the legal department and across business groups. Ability and willingness to present to senior business and legal leaders. Ability to prioritize and interact with senior management. Analytical thinker who is an independent/self-starter. Must thrive and make decisions in a fast-paced, changing environment. Strong sense of honesty and ethics as an officer of the court and a representative protecting the reputation . Preferred:. Regulatory or compliance experience. Experience working with bank regulators, bankruptcy trustees and/or the Office of the United States Trustee.
