Malpractice / Litigation Counsel

Malpractice / Litigation Counsel The candidate provides legal representation to the organization in claims-related litigation through collaboration with Chief Legal Officer, other in-house Legal Department attorneys, outside counsel, senior management, and litigation support staff. Will assist in managing claims through the litigation cycle and consult with in-house colleagues and senior management to resolve issues and determine settlements. Will regularly prepare witnesses for deposition, formulate case strategy, actively participate in discovery, interact with medical operations and corporate personnel, represent the company in hearings, interact with and manage outside counsel, take depositions of witnesses, parties, and experts, participate in setting financial reserves for claims, interact with insurers, and actively contribute to the overall risk management of the company and its employees.

The candidate should have completed Graduation from an accredited law school. Must have 3+ years of relevant experience (healthcare, insurance, malpractice, product liability, complex litigation). Must be active member of The Florida Bar. Juris Doctor degree is preferred. 3+ years of relevant experience (healthcare, insurance, malpractice, product liability, complex) is desired. Board certification in civil trial law is desired. Should have knowledge and understanding of state laws and regulations affecting healthcare organizations. Must have knowledge of the healthcare industry's trends, directions, major issues, regulatory considerations and trendsetters. Should have ability to gather necessary informaiton to determine damage and liability implications and other case-specific issues. Knowledge of the procedural and judicial rules governing the litigation of medical malpractice and other claims is needed. should have knowledge of the full spectrum of activities, practices, tools, and considerations for managing and litigating medical malpractice and other claims.
