Associate Counsel, Privacy The candidate will serve as subject matter expert for legal issues related to privacy, data usage, and the protection of information assets of the company. Will provide legal guidance on privacy laws and regulations. Assists with management and oversight of comprehensive privacy compliance program for entire company and all related issues, projects, initiatives, and training. Provide advice, with supervision to business partners on privacy and data protection issues, as well as social media, technology, and licensing issues as needed. Advise business partners of applicability of privacy laws such as Regulation S-P, FCRA, and GDPR to business initiatives. Draft company-wide and department-specific education on privacy issue under the direction of the Chief Privacy Officer. Maintain and test the company privacy-related policies, data classified policies, incident response policies, BYOD and corporate device use policies, and social media usage policies. Draft, with the guidance of the Chief Privacy Officer, new privacy-related policies as needed. Track legal and regulation changes related to privacy and cybersecurity. Monitor rules, regulations and emerging trends relative to privacy and data protection. Apply knowledge of business operations to evolving privacy laws to identify potential needed changes, and work with business partners to implement appropriate and required protections. Lead low and medium sensitivity personal information incidents. Provide legal support for personal information incidents. Provide legal guidance to security event response teams as needed. Answer questions and provide guidance on legal issues surrounding emerging technologies, especially as such impact privacy and information security. The candidate should have a J.D. degree. CIPP/US, CIPP/IT, or CIPM preferred. Specific industry and legal experience in the privacy and data security fields preferred. Must have 2-5 years of total experience with 1+ year of related experience. Military education or experience may be considered in lieu of civilian requirements listed. Familiarity with technology and network systems sufficient to allow efficient communication with technology and cybersecurity organizations is required. Knowledge and experience with privacy and cybersecurity legal and regulatory issues related to financial services in the US is needed. Should have familiarity with privacy and cybersecurity laws in other industries and jurisdictions, including APEC and EU.
