Employment Counsel The candidate will report into the Chief Counsel - Employment, Compensation, and Benefits. Will support the Human Resources team, as well as other key stakeholders, to enable the company to operate within applicable legal and regulatory parameters. Provide practical and business-oriented legal advice and counseling on a range of employment issues, including: hiring, performance management, employee relations, terminations, leaves of absence and accommodations, wage and hour, internal investigations, compensation, benefits, and privacy. Partner with business stakeholders and Human Resources to develop, and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance and mitigate legal risks. Investigate and respond to federal and state administrative complaints (including EEOC charges). Collaborate with local counsel to advise Human Resources and management on international employment issues, and respond to international administrative claims. Work across geographies and ensure alignment with internal business partners, including Human Resources, Finance and other Legal Team members. Advise Human Resources and management to ensure compliance with US federal executive orders and Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) regulations. Manage employment related litigation, including responding to attorney demand letters, individual arbitrations and lawsuits, effectively negotiating resolution of claims, and making recommendations to Human Resources and senior management on corrective action. Actively monitor employment law changes, to ensure policies and practices are compliant. Develop and facilitate training for Human Resources staff, managers, and employees. The candidate should have a J.D. degree from a nationally recognized law school. Admission to the State Bar of California or New York preferred. Must have 4+ years of experience (including counseling) from a top-tier law firm and/or in-house experience in a public company. Experience responding to administrative claims (including EEOC and state agencies) is required. Substantive expertise in employment law combined with excellent project management skills and sound judgment in managing workload and interacting with internal business clients needed.
