Legal Counsel, Privacy And Product

Legal Counsel, Privacy and Product The candidate will collaborate with our product teams and engineers through designing and establishing state of the art privacy programs and contribute to making the New Relic s growing Legal Department as a trusted, valued business partner within the company. Provide legal direction for product development initiatives throughout the software development lifecycle. Interface with engineering, product management, and infosec teams as the relevant legal point of contact to manage product issues as they arise. Serve as the subject matter expert on regulatory issues impacting New Relic and its service offerings, including impact from domestic and international legal frameworks (ex. US Law, EU law, Safe Harbor, HIPAA, COPPA, State laws and regulations, and the FTC best practices). Develop forward-looking privacy strategies, policies, and tools to engender trust in the areas of privacy and data usage. Employ Privacy by Design principles by integrating privacy reviews during multiple stages of the development process within product teams. Support review and negotiation of inbound and outbound agreements. Must have 5+ years of relevant privacy, product counseling, and transactional experience (a mix of in-house and law firm experience strongly preferred). Should have JD degree and must be admitted to practice law and be a member in good standing of the California Bar. Depth of technical knowledge and experience with innovative software and technologies, privacy, data security laws, and regulations is needed. Ability to translate that knowledge across the company to deliver relevant and actionable guidance to the business is must.
