Associate General Counsel - State Regulation and Compliance The candidate will support the Company's efforts to operate in compliance with state and local laws and regulations and to remain current on all state and local legal and regulatory developments related to healthcare, such as hospital quality, operational and contract issues. Will monitor, researche and analyze healthcare and other regulatory developments and issues in each locality in which the Company operates, provides analysis and advice on legal and policy issues, anticipates and protects the Company against legal risks, develops and recommends Company policy and position on legal issues, anticipates needs and develops strategy, participates in the design, implementation and support of compliance efforts, supports the investigation and response to state and local regulatory and compliance concerns, oversees and manages the Company s internal Certificate of Need application and approval process, and identifies, retains and oversees the work of outside counsel and consultants with respect to such matters. Requires close communication and coordination with other departments, including Operations, Compliance, Quality, Development, Real Estate, Reimbursement and Governmental Affairs and, as needed, interaction with state and local legislative, regulatory and executive officials, the drafting, review, editing and negotiation of external contracts and internal policies, plans and programs, research into a variety of legal issues and writing, reviewing and editing reports, opinions, correspondence, articles and other documents, organizing and participating in internal training, educational seminars and workshops with respect to state regulatory matters, and supporting litigation efforts. Assumes other duties as assigned. Support cultural diversity by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity. Provides support for internal state and local regulatory matters through research, analysis and coordination with the company's Compliance Department, as well as Operations, Quality, Development, Real Estate, Reimbursement, Governmental Affairs and other departments. Oversees and manages the Company s internal Certificate of Need application and approval process. Remains abreast of legal and regulatory developments related to healthcare, including requirements impacting hospital quality, operational and contract issues and provides advice to company and hospital management regarding such issues. Drafts, reviews, edits, and negotiates a variety of contracts requested by company and hospital management. Provides analysis and counsel on legal and policy issues, as needed. Anticipates and guards against legal risks facing the company. Develops and recommends company policy and position on legal issues. Conducts and coordinates research into a variety of legal issues. Writes, reviews, and edits reports, opinions, correspondence, articles and other documents. Maintains and improves legal skills and knowledge through coursework, periodicals and other sources. Networks with co-workers to share best practices. Understands different departments and their role in the corporate office. Develops strategies and aligns work to achieve goals. Completes special projects and other duties as requested to support needs of organization. Organizes, plans, and manages time effectively to complete assignments. Meets position requirements and performs essential functions. Completes mandatory training and courses required by completion date. Reports questionable situations, concerns, complaints or harassment immediately. General office equipment such as telephone, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, computer.

The candidate should have License to practice law in the State of Alabama. Must have Juris Doctor Degree. Must have 10+ years of relevant legal experience at a reputable law firm or in-house. Experience with state and local governmental institutions and processes is required. Experience working with healthcare providers preferred. Note : This is a temporary position.
