Corporate Counsel - Employment The candidate will support the VP and General Counsel and overall business in employment counseling and litigation, corporate policies and procedures, and general corporate representation. Will assist the Legal Department in advising the Business and Executive Team on employment matters, directing and managing the Company s litigation load, and reviewing, developing, and updating corporate policies and processes. Also work with the Legal Operations Specialist and a cross-functional internal team to develop and implement document retention, e-discovery, and other knowledge management policies and procedures. Ad hoc work also be assigned as determined by business needs. Understands, communicates, and shares Company vision throughout division/organization and provides cross-functional perspective, direction, and support. Provides leadership and personal support; leads by example. Drives Company focus, manages culture, encourages strong work ethic, and fosters an environment of trust and respect. Communicates and supports Company policies and decisions in a positive manner. Provides input and assists with the monitoring of the department budget. Works closely with Human Resources Department to provide counsel on all employment matters and related litigation and mediation. Stays abreast of new employment and labor laws and trends, and reports on them to Legal Department members, HR and management, as appropriate. Establishes best practices and templates for use in employment related matters. Works closely with Human Resources as needed to review employee disciplinary actions and to assist with other employee relations issues. Drafts employment agreements and related training and policy materials. Responds to subpoenas, complaints and administrative agency investigations. Identifies practical solutions for avoiding and/or reducing legal risk. Assists the VP and General Counsel in evaluating effectiveness of current corporate policies and researches, designs, and implements new policies and processes as required. Assists the VP and General Counsel and cross-functional team in reviewing, developing, evaluating, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive knowledge management program, including document management and retention and e-discovery. Supports the VP and General Counsel and Business on Mergers and Acquisition Transactions. Works with business and functional leaders as required to assess and advise on legal matters. Researches legal and business issues as required. Manages outside legal counsel as required ensuring competency of work and meeting deadlines.

The candidate must have Bachelor's and Juris Doctor Degree and is a member in good standing with the California Bar. Must have 5 - 8 years of experience as an employment law and litigation attorney in a mid-size or large law firm or in-house legal department. Consumer products industry experience required, with wine industry experience preferred. Experience dealing cross-functionally with multiple business groups is required. Excellent written communication skills for advising the General Counsel and other senior leadership, creating reports/presentations, and extensive business and legal correspondence is required. Thorough understanding of state and federal civil procedure, and of California and Federal employment laws and regulations is required.
