Senior Counsel, Real Estate The candidate will act as primary legal counselor/advisor and business partner for firm s real estate function. Advise, represent and support senior leadership in real property lease transactions, facility maintenance and related matters, real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, developments, land use and environmental matters, and financing transactions relating to any of the foregoing. Negotiate, draft and structure lease, occupancy and facility maintenance agreements for projects across a large domestic portfolio of transportation and warehouse logistics facilities, with some support of international portfolio. Manage outside counsel in the drafting and negotiation of lease agreements and other development documents, including 1031 exchanges and other complex real estate transactions. Oversee and manage litigation, arbitration, administrative proceedings and other regulatory proceedings or matters arising out of or related to firm s real estate portfolio, including the management of outside counsel engaged to represent firm in litigation or other proceedings. Identify opportunities for internal process improvements and take steps to implement them. Collaborate frequently with colleagues to articulate risks and benefits of legal strategy to achieve company objectives. Prepare regular and ad hoc status reports for management. The candidate must have JD degree from a nationally recognized law school. Should have 6-8 years of commercial real estate experience in a law firm, corporate law department, or combination thereof. Leasing and other broad transactional experience is required. Working knowledge and primary focus of prior work experience in substantive areas of real estate law and practice, including reviewing, drafting and negotiating leases, purchase and sale documents, financing agreements and related documents is needed. Familiarity with insurance types and coverage requirements in real estate matters is must. Experience with navigating complex and dynamic corporate organizations is essential. Experience with transportation and warehouse logistics industry is preferred. Combination of sophisticated law firm and in-house experience is desired.
