Employment Counsel The candidate will work under moderate direction. Will keep the General Counsel informed and consult with the General Counsel for guidance and decisions on policy-level, complex, strategic, or potentially controversial projects and issues. May also work with outside counsel as approved by the General Counsel. Will mainly focus on issues affecting our employees in our large Chicago headquarters. However, will also handle employment issues respecting our employees who work remotely from home in various states, as well as the employees in small offices in UK, Hong Kong and Australia, and our growing Krakow engineering office. Be a hero to HR and GC by taking a responsive and proactive approach through solid and ever-increasing knowledge of applicable practices laws, rules, regulations and cases to projects and issues such as: HR legal compliance training programs; Employee Handbooks and HR Policies; Job Descriptions and ADA Accommodation Request Form; Forms of Employment Agreements and Separation Agreements; Draft and negotiate special clauses for employment and separation agreements for high level personnel; Disciplinary actions, terminations, job eliminations, and Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs); FLSA issues, including worker classification, record-keeping, and independent contractors; ADA, FMLA, Paid Sick Leave and other leave laws (in relation to our PTO benefits and Parental Leave Policy); Discrimination and harassment issues; Affirmative Action Plan and Diversity & Inclusion Plan; Prepare and issue Litigation Holds, work with HR on investigations, handle agency actions; Work with outside counsel as needed and approved by General Counsel.

A J.D. with concentration in Employment Law and Litigation (or JD plus Masters of HR Law and/or Employment Law) is preferred. J.D. from upper tier law school and high grades (especially in employment and litigation courses) is desired. Experience: 3-5 years of strong employment law experience at a good law firm focusing on employer representation. Employment law experience should include significant employment litigation and all Role issues / projects above. Should have excellent knowledge of substantive employment laws and practices, including all Role issues / projects above. Must have excellent ability to research employment laws and cases, analyze and distinguish cases and facts. Must be able to translate the core components of complex case rulings, laws and regulations into common language and make sound recommendations that HR understands and accepts. Should have excellent ability to manage priorities effectively, making good decisions based on priorities and objectives should have thorough knowledge of substantive employment laws and practices, including most Role issues / projects above. Must have strong ability to research employment laws and cases, analyze and distinguish cases and facts. Should have strong oral presentation and written skills. Must be able to translate the core components of complex case rulings, laws and regulations into common language and make sound recommendations that HR understands and accept. Must have strong ability to manage priorities effectively, making good decisions based on priorities and objectives.
