Director/ Senior Corporate Counsel The candidate will serve as the primary employment counsel to Iridium and lead legal support for human resources matters involving employment law and benefits; lead support on legal operations issues; and 3) provide back-up as needed on privacy matters. Will provide advice and counsel to human resources professionals on all aspects of day-to-day employment-related matters, including hiring and termination issues, harassment, discrimination and retaliation, leaves of absence, reasonable accommodations, wage and hour issues, restrictive covenants, conflicts of interest, independent contractor issues, employee investigations, hiring of current and former government employees, etc. Review involuntary terminations and draft separation agreements, as appropriate Support human resources team on legal help with benefits matters e.g., matters related to 401(k) Committee and employee communications re: benefits and annual benefit reporting. Stay up-to-date on changes in employment and labor laws and provide tailored advice to stakeholders on any policy, process or other change. Review, interpret, and draft company policies and procedures, including state specific requirements. Assist in the preparation and possibly delivery of various Human Resources and Legal training courses. Investigate and represent the company at the administrative level (EEOC, DOL, equivalent state and local agencies). Prepare position statements, represent Company at mediation, negotiate settlement agreements and bring in outside counsel, when appropriate. Assist in company M&A and finance efforts as needed. Partner with Human Resources and Tax in determining best structure for international consultants and employees and periodically assess whether structure remains appropriate as business needs evolve. Manage employment litigation (with in-house litigation counsel as appropriate), reviewing pleadings, developing strategy with outside counsel, facilitating the gathering of information (documents, interviews); making recommendations at key stages in the process, etc. Partner with Human Resources to develop strategies for global mobility and immigration issues, including expat and secondment arrangements. Collaborate with Human Resources and other business partners on internal investigations. Lead Legal operations. Handle accruals, budgeting, forecasting and monitoring of actual performance against budgets and forecasts. Provide creative thinking to help identify and develop and implement cutting-edge strategies for increasing value and reducing outside legal spend while maintaining high standards for legal support and optimizing engagement practices with law firms and consultants. Help manage senior staff meeting agendas and logistics for department offsite meetings (and similar team meetings), including scheduling, materials and after-action reports. Help develop and manage annual department goals. Oversee development and implementation of knowledge management (e.g., on SharePoint, document management, Salesforce), department policies, and communications. Provide back-up support as needed on privacy compliance matters including counseling internal clients, implement policies, and prepare filings to enhance compliance with data privacy regulations. Responsible for other projects, plans and initiatives as determined by the Chief Legal Officer.

The candidate should have 8+ years experience in employment law. Exceptional analytical, writing and negotiation skill is essential. In-house counsel experience is a strong plus. Telecommunications industry experience a plus. Must be a graduate of an accredited law school and a member in good standing of the Virginia State Bar or eligible for admission as corporate counsel. Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
