Corporate Counsel Duties: Will be responsible for handling all aspects of State and Federal employment-related agency claims and providing support and oversight on other employment litigation matters as assigned. Provide day-to-day advice and counsel to Human Resource professionals on a broad range of employment issues and offer support on employment compliance initiatives and other project work. Handle all aspects of employment agency claims (e.g. DLSE, EEOC, and other federal and state employment agency matters) including investigating, drafting of position statements and mediating such claims as required. Provide other litigation support as directed by Senior Corporate Counsel including handling attorney demand letters, overseeing individual litigation matters and providing discovery support in more complex matters. Remain current on employment law trends and make recommendations to Senior Corporate Counsel regarding how to minimize potential legal exposure for the Company. Negotiate and draft settlement, severance and retention agreements. Provide support on compliance initiatives as directed by Senior Counsel. Advise Human Resources on and assist Human Resources with the creation/updating of policies and guidelines as needed. Research and analyze compliance issues. Provide legal advice and counsel to Human Resources concerning a variety of legal topics including employee relations, employment policy and procedure, staffing strategies, benefits, performance management, disciplinary programs and terminations, severance programs, compensation and commission plans, wage and hour issues, equal employment opportunity laws and internal investigations. In conjunction with Sr. Corporate Counsel, develop and deliver training for Human Resource team, and other departments on employment compliance risk areas, trends, and labor and employment law developments.

QUALIFICATIONS: Strong academic credentials and law degree from an ABA accredited law school. California State Bar member. 1-5 years of law experience in a law firm or in house corporate legal department with sole or concentrated focus on employment law. Broad based knowledge of Federal, State and Local employment laws. Ability to manage and coordinate special projects and workplace initiatives. Ability to work independently and with a minimal amount if direction. Ability to manage outside counsel relationships in a cost-effective manner. Ability to successfully interact with others in the department, Company, and outside parties in a professional and service-oriented manner. Strong communication skills and technical ability. Ability to effectively, efficiently, and calmly manage multiple time-sensitive projects. Strong attention to detail. Must be proficient in MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other computer systems.
