Principal Counsel - Imagineering/Construction Duties: Assist the Deputy Chief Counsel and other WDI attorneys in fulfilling the legal affairs and requirements of the company. Areas of focus can include, but are not limited to, legal matters pertaining to the design and construction of theme parks; hotels; retail, dining and entertainment facilities; rides; shows and attractions both domestically and internationally. Drafts contracts and other legal documents, recommends approval/modification of contracts proposed by outside parties, and leads or assists other attorneys in negotiation with outside parties. Leads or supports comparable tasks in other areas outside of core expertise/primary responsibility. Maintains (including through Department-designated continuing legal education) substantive knowledge in specialized legal areas, specifically in subject areas relevant to business, including: (1) design and construction of complex, highly-integrated projects; (2) domestic and international transactions for services, goods, etc.; and (3) intellectual property issues relating to the aforementioned, including copyright and patent. Keeps internal clients and Department colleagues informed of relevant legal issues and implications on business and proposed actions, and advises them accordingly of risks and legal consequences of alternative actions. Reviews and edits significant letters, contracts, work orders and other documents from applicable client departments to ensure that potential legal implications are appropriately addressed. May directly supervise, on a non-exclusive basis, one or more support staff colleagues. If requested by the Deputy Chief Counsel, participates in relevant professional associations, seminars, and conferences. Operates within the context of defined corporate strategies. Recommends and, with appropriate approvals, implements enhancements and improvements to established processes and workflows. Performs such other duties or functions as the Deputy Chief Counsel or an attorney reporting thereto may delegate. Conceives and recommends strategies and initiatives to minimize legal risks. Maintains current knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and of industry legal standards and norms; analyzes how these might impact WDI. Be available during off hours due to the international responsibilities of the position.

Qualifications: Bachelors or Masters degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering or construction management; and Member of California Bar preferred. JD Degree from an accredited law school. Registered in-house Counsel. 8+ years experience in the practice of construction law (including extensive drafting experience) in a transactional or litigation capacity in either a top tier law firm or in-house at a major developer or large construction firm, or a combination thereof. Preferred: Experience working in a sophisticated in-house legal department in the theme park industry, including: Experience with the administration of construction claims. Familiarity with industry-standard construction contract forms and delivery methods for construction projects. Experience representing or advising the owner/developer in complex construction projects involving multiple parties (e.g., architects, general contractors and specialist vendors). Experience with complex design/fabrication transactions. Proficient and self-sufficient in all industry-standard software applications (Microsoft Office suite, etc.), strong attention to detail/organization, highly adaptable to dynamic work assignments and client needs.
