Construction Attorney The candidate will be an integral member of the firm's Contracts Department and works collaboratively with attorney and non-attorney team members inside and outside the firm's Contracts Department to ensure that the risks assumed in contracts can be proactively managed through the contract and project lifecycle. Will be primarily responsible for handling construction-related legal matters in multiple business units (with support of outside counsel as may be required), including the drafting, review and negotiation of contracts between firm's and owners, other prime contractors and subcontractors; transactional-based matters; assistance with response to performance failures; and dispute resolution. Assist in the review of Requests for Proposals, Terms & Conditions, Insurance provisions and support Engineering/Estimating as required in the evaluation of business opportunities. Determine, develop and implement a suitable risk profile for construction services business. Participate in corporate evaluation of alternate project delivery contract strategies and initial project assessment for projects with elevated potential risk. Assist in negotiating contracts with private sector owners and with downstream subcontract service providers and major material suppliers. Participate in routine follow-up to ensure compliance during program execution. Provide training and advice to project teams on understanding managing contract requirements. Lead or assist operations teams and Senior Management to recognize, prepare and manage the resolution of contract disputes, claims and significant change orders. Lead or assist operations teams and management with review or negotiation of leases, financial instruments, or other transactional-based matters.

The candidate should have Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school. Must have License, in good standing, to practice law in at least one U.S. Jurisdiction. Must have 5 - 10 years of relevant legal experience with reputable law firm training and/or in-house experience with broad-based experience focusing on drafting and negotiating a variety of agreements, with strong preference given to experience drafting and negotiating construction contracts and subcontracts. Must have experience in infrastructure projects and approaches to alternative project delivery (e.g., CMGC). Advanced negotiation and dispute resolution experience is required. Strong financial and business acumen with the knowledge of how to structure and close a business deal is required. Must have understanding of key contractual issues including indemnity, warranty, guaranty, performance guarantees, corporate and project specific insurance programs and liquidated damages. Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, federal contracts, including cost and pricing matters, FAR/DFARS is required. Must possess and demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to produce a variety of professional communications to support the operations and management on a variety of issues. Note : This is a temporary position.
