Counsel, Labor & Employment The candidate will provide practical L&E legal advice and strategic litigation management across company s U.S. functions and business units. The position, located in downtown Chicago, will work closely with company s Human Resources partners to accomplish the Company s workforce objectives while minimizing risk across various personnel matters, including performance management, reductions in force, talent acquisition, labor relations, leaves of absence and accommodations, EEO/affirmative action, compensation and rewards, and learning and development, among other area. Will also be responsible for managing outside counsel retained to represent company in L&E litigation and providing L&E support on key business initiatives and human resource projects. This position requires in-depth knowledge of anti-discrimination/harassment/retaliation laws, leave of absence and accommodation obligations, wage and hour statutes and regulations and traditional labor laws (NLRB). This position also requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to impact and influence company s workforce development strategies. Human Resources Support: Counsel Human Resources on compliance with state and federal employment laws including Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA and FLSA; review and update employment policies, including employee handbooks, bonus plans, compensation guidelines and severance programs; train and advise HR on recent developments in employment law; support Labor Relations and factory HR partners in responding to union grievances and information requests, determining mandatory subjects of bargaining and implementing the Company s union avoidance strategy; conduct legal review (including adverse impact analyses and WARN assessments) of workforce reductions, consolidations and restructurings. Internal Dispute Resolution: Draft and submit position statements, responses to information requests and other responsive submissions in state and federal administrative agencies matters; represent company in mediations and negotiate and draft settlement and separation agreements; respond to and resolve pre-litigation demands. Outside Counsel Management: Oversee outside counsel in L&E matters, including establishing case strategy, reviewing and approving pleadings, discovery responses and dispositive motions and briefs, among other dispute management tasks; manage outside counsel spend to budget.

The candidate should have JD degree from an accredited law school; member of the Illinois State Bar in good standing. Should have 6 years of labor and employment experience; law firm experience required, prior in-house experience preferred. Should have excellent business judgment with the ability to provide sound legal advice which reflects an understanding of company s overall business objectives. Must have ability to effectively manage outside counsel. Should have exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, coordinate and satisfy numerous competing demands. Must have strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to professionalism and integrity. Should have superior written and verbal communication skills.
