Legal Counsel/analyst Indirect Tax Controversy

Legal Counsel/Analyst Indirect Tax Controversy The candidate will report directly to firm s Associate General Counsel, Tax. Will serve as front line interface with state and local tax authorities. Lead multiple audits and tax controversy matters regarding sales and use tax, property tax, and GST/HST in Canada, including managing the audit calendar, drafting responses to auditors, gathering information from firm s tax, accounting, and other departments as needed to respond to information requests. Coordinate and Communicate with cross functional teams & key contacts in the Americas, including: Tax, Trade/Customs, Legal, Finance/Accounting/Treasury, Payroll, IT Applications, and Financial Systems, in order to gather factual data, assess audit and litigation risk and to defend company tax positions. Hire and manage outside counsel as needed. Must have 5+ years of tax experience with law firm, accounting firm, and/or corporate legal department, with significant experience in indirect tax controversy matters, including sales and use tax and/or property tax. JD degree, CPA, or Masters in Tax is a must. Strong verbal and written communication skill is essential. Other skills needed include computer skills, a good working knowledge of standard office technology and equipment, and general office procedures is essential.
