Compliance Counsel

Compliance Counsel The candidate will provide support and advice to company management and employees on company legal and compliance policies and procedures and employment related matters. Specific areas of focus include: oversee and perform internal investigations; manage the corrective actions process, including discipline and root cause analysis on verified compliance violations; and create and provide training and communication material to ensure compliance with the UTC and company Ethics & Compliance programs. This position will work closely with regional ethics and compliance leaders, the global investigation team and company regional and WHQ management. Advise company management and employees on legal and compliance risks under UTC anticorruption policies, the US FCPA and other anticorruption laws. Develop strategies to effectively integrate compliance requirements into company business processes to mitigate risks. Support the timely and accurate reporting of ethics and compliance issues into the UTC compliance database C-360. Lead, perform or support investigations of alleged violations of law, company policies, or the UTC Code of Ethics. Support the disciplinary review process for Ethics & Compliance violations in consultation and coordination with the Legal and Human Resources Departments and others in management, with focus on driving root cause analysis and corrective actions on verified cases. Lead the company cross functional audit program and manage follow up actions from company and UTC IAD audits and compliance reviews. Support periodic reporting to management on investigations, audits, and other ethics and compliance activities and initiatives. Support and develop targeted ethics communications and training to company employees on critical anticorruption policies, key risks, and general expectations under the UTC Code of Ethics. Develop and implement strategies to support management in advancing an ethical and compliant culture by promoting employee awareness, understanding and compliance with the UTC Code of Ethics through training and communications efforts. Support annual risk assessment and mitigation process. Provide global support to human resources on strategic employment-related matters, including training and legal advice and counsel on the following: global employment laws, with a focus on North America, including laws relating to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, disability/reasonable accommodation, protected leaves of absence, labor relations and whistleblower protection; implementation of restructuring programs, closures and other reductions in force; employee performance management and execution of other employment actions, including discipline, termination and personnel changes; management of high level employment separations; compensation and benefit programs.

The candidate should have Law degree from US accredited law school. Must have 5-7 years legal experience, preferably in compliance, internal investigations, employment law, and risk mitigation issues in a global business. Must be able to travel, including internationally; prior international experience preferred. Should have excellent communication skills (written, verbal, presentation via PowerPoint). Must have strong relationship building skills, and be able to interact effectively with customers and peer managers in a demanding, results oriented organization. Should have strong Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) skills. Bilingual a plus.
