Senior Corporate Counsel, Employment Law The candidate will report to the Assistant General Counsel and manage a diverse array of labor and employment matters. Will leverage prior law firm and in-house experience to effectively partner with Human Resources to create internal best practices on managing employee relations matters, oversee the work of outside counsel on employment-related litigation, and advise on external agency cases as well as internal employee relations investigations. Develop a deep understanding of company's business and products and the applicable industry developments and requirements. Draft, review in conjunction with the Human Resources team employment related agreements, and work on a wide variety of Human Resources projects. Provide advice to the HR team on employment matters, including, e.g., wage and hour compliance, disability accommodations, involuntary terminations, reductions in force, leaves of absence, employment law training for managers, sensitive misconduct investigations, and general risk assessments. Work collaboratively with a broad range of people and departments throughout the organization to develop and maintain strong working relationships between Legal, HR, Finance, IT, Security, Internal Audit, and operational groups, utilizing a team based approach. Engage with outside counsel to effectively resolve threatened or outstanding employment litigation matters and to establish best practices for prevention of matters. Establish a rapport and working relationship with business partners in order to encourage and continue the proactive use of in-house legal counsel. Understand and be able to translate into plain English the legal ramifications of varied legal issues (including regulatory requirements) and clearly and succinctly articulate the risks. Should have membership in good standing in the California State Bar. Must have solid experience in applicable firm and in-house legal environments, with 2+ years at a law firm. Significant substantive expertise in US employment law is needed. International employment law experience a plus. Ability to review, understand, analyze, and interpret employment agreements is essential. Contract drafting and negotiating experience required.
