Associate General Counsel - Litigation The candidate will provide advice and counsel on a broad range of health law, litigation, provider arbitration and regulatory enforcement issues, as a member of firm s Law Department. The Law Department partners with the company s business leaders to embrace legal and ethical behavior in the achievement of the company s mission. The Associate General Counsel reports to the head of firm s Litigation Team, and works closely with attorneys, paralegals, and litigation specialists focusing on health care litigation, as well as corporate and regulatory attorneys and staff. This team is highly regarded within the company and respected by management. Provide advice and counsel on a broad range of health law and litigation issues. Defend firm against litigation, arbitrations, and regulatory enforcement matters. Defend firm against litigation, arbitrations, and regulatory enforcement matters.Develop and pursue legal strategy consistent with firm s mission and goals. Pursue litigation and recovery on behalf of firm. Supervise the work of outside litigation counsel with a high degree of independence. Provide thoughtful advice and support to various firm business units on litigation, arbitrations, pre-litigation dispute resolution, and regulatory enforcement actions. Engage with regulators in connection with threatened and pending enforcement actions, including researching and responding to investigative discovery. Provide advice and counsel related to deposition and document subpoenas served on firm, including defending employee depositions. Provide guidance and training to legal support staff in support of the Law Department s goals. Other duties as assigned.

The candidate should have successful track record of 5+ years of experience providing legal advice on litigation, health law and managed care law issues at a top law firm, regulatory agency, or in-house. Must have a combination of law firm and in-house experience. Recent litigation or arbitration experience, including preparing discovery responses, writing motions and other briefs with a high degree of independence, and making court or arbitral appearances on substantive legal issues is essential. Experience representing HMOs or large health plans/health insurers is essential. Understanding of, and experience providing advice with respect to the Affordable Care Act, Knox-Keene Health Care Service Plan Act and the California Insurance Code is essential. Ideally, experience with contracted and non-contracted provider payment disputes is essential. Superior academic credentials from a top-tier law school is essential. Member of California State Bar is essential. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with a strong ability to communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization and with regulatory counterparts is essential. Strong negotiation skills is essential.
