Employment Attorney The candidate as a member of company's Chicago House Counsel,will be responsible for defending company s insureds in labor and employment matters, including responding to demand letters, charges of discrimination, and litigation in state and federal courts. Work on a wide variety of labor and employment claims and potentially other types of claims involving professional liability and subrogation. Specific duties will include: administrative agency work, preparing position statements and responses and appearing at agency hearings and other proceedings; trial work, conducting and defending depositions and engaging in other pre-trial discovery, drafting pleadings, engaging in motion practice; researching, briefing and arguing appellate matters; representing client at mediations, negotiating settlements; complying with company litigation guidelines, generating reports and evaluations on assigned cases; and other duties as assigned.

The candidate must possess a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in Illinois. Licensure in WI also preferred. Should have admission to Illinois State Bar and the U.S. District Courts of Illinois. Admission to the State Bar of Wisconsin preferred. Must have 3-5 years prior employment law or litigation experience. Must have prior employment law or litigation experience. Must have strong knowledge of current procedural and substantive law, as well as Federal and State rules. Must be able to demonstrate effective oral and written advocacy skills and negotiation tactics. Must have an ability to apply analytical skills in addressing complex legal issues. Must be able and willing to proactively communicate with clients, Claims staff and other members of House Counsel.
