Managing Counsel - Intellectual Property Initiatives Duties: Manage and lead of team of attorneys, paralegals and other staff members within the Intellectual Property section of the Enterprise Division of the Legal Department. Oversee a group of intellectual property attorneys and related professionals providing legal advice and strategic insight on the management, creation and protection of portfolio of intellectual property. Will lead a team that will be involved with all business groups within the continuing creation communication and education on intellectual property. Will be heavily invested in protecting the innovation and technology of the Company and in enterprise wide risk management activities and practices related to intellectual property. Manage a team of lawyers, paralegals, providing legal advice to business units on legal issues related to intellectual property and on risk reduction activities. Will be responsible for strategic advisors, business analysts and other professionals supporting the strategic development and use of our intellectual property across the company. Will include the strategic development of our intellectual property to increase value to WFC and to reduce risk from competitor and emerging technologies. Leverage patent and other IP data as an indicator of technology investment and intent for market actors, competitors, new entrants, etc. Create new ways to visualize IP data (frameworks, etc.) which abstract the information and trends to business perspectives. Lead the team in developing goals, tracking and reporting of invention disclosures and patent applications for the business units on a routine recurring schedule. Enhance, manage and deliver an Inventor Recognition Program that supports the patenting goals of the company while providing a tangible incentive for the inventors and encourages continued innovation and invention. Develop, manage and deliver tools for recruitment of line of business engagement with the intellectual property efforts of the company. Develop and deliver standardized educational opportunities, educational programs designed to increase business knowledge and engagement. Lead in the development and creation of communication materials for internal enterprise wide communication efforts and for use with selected external audiences and external press on innovation, invention and patenting efforts. Develop insights to inform business units regarding IP trends, their likely meaning and business responses. Develop and maintain relationships with key internal business unit constituencies, including managers and senior leaders of Innovation, Technology and Product Development practices. Manage the team members on the team. Foster individual team member growth and development in substantive areas. Lead outreach to business units on the value of Intellectual property as a corporate goal. Manage a budget related to education, outreach and reporting. Partner and closely collaborate with other IP team leaders to build an IP Management Team to respond to the IP needs.

Qualifications: A JD degree. Active State Bar membership. 1+ year of leadership experience. 10+ years of experience as a practicing attorney; or 8+ years of experience as a practicing attorney and 2+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following areas: risk, compliance, contracts, government/regulatory, financial services, or technology. Desired Qualifications: Business development experience including development and execution of business vision, strategies, and goals. Leadership and management experience for team of attorneys and staff with a section or legal specialty including developing virtual staff and managing a budget. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships within and across business lines at all levels of the organization. Effective organizational, multi tasking, and prioritizing skills. Ability to make complex decisions. Budget management experience. Virtual leadership experience with ability to effectively drive results, provide feedback/direction, and manage and build relationships with leaders and team members in a geographically dispersed team environment. Ability to consult, build, and maintain solid working relationships in and outside of immediate department. Ability to develop and manage business relationships. Ability to develop and manage client relationships. Ability to lead projects/initiatives with high risk and complexity. Ability to positively influence, motivate, and direct diverse teams in a shift based, decentralized, and geographically dispersed environment. Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills. Experience communicating and presenting complex information to multiple levels of the organization. Other Desired Qualifications: Significant subject matter expertise in technology and intellectual property in financial services companies, an awareness of risks and opportunities for financial services companies in the use of their intellectual property and an understanding of trends. Knowledge of the underlying business components of intellectual property. Will demonstrate knowledge in intellectual property issues for a large financial services company. Will have a demonstrated ability to lead in developing a strategic vision and to implement tools to execute on that vision. Will also have a history of superior collaboration and partnership skills and must have superior communication abilities and client service skills. Must demonstrate very strong interpersonal skills and excellent organizational skills. Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities is essential. Must be able to work with developing technology solutions. The ability to excel both individually and collaboratively in a diverse financial services company in a highly regulated environment is expected. Close Date 08/16/2018
