Trial Attorney - Litigation Attorney The candidate will provide legal representation to Selective and its insureds as a liability trial attorney practicing in the courts of the Commonwealth of PA, handling third party cases, matters and claims. Will provide legal representation to insureds of the Company in defense of litigated claims. provide advice to the claims department of the Company and represent the Company in certain litigated matters. Prepares pleadings, motions, briefs, letters, memoranda, and reports, etc. using the Company s legal case management software, dictation and voice recognition equipment. Engages in various forms of paper discovery practice and conducts depositions and other pre-trial examinations. Communicates with and regularly updates clients and claims personnel regarding the status of pending matters, and communicates with opposing counsel, the courts, the bar and others as needed. Controls and directs support staff and clerical activity, in accordance with office protocol. Reports to the managing attorney concerning status of matters and provides other information as requested, and engages in other activities as directed by the managing attorney. Tries cases to conclusion before judges, juries and other triers of fact. Has experience in resolving cases through use of alternative dispute resolution tools. Travels to depositions, court appearances, claims and client meetings, and other events as necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Explorer or similar is required. Typing skill is required. Legal case management software experience is preferred. Excellent customer service, writing and oral communication skill is required. Must have detailed knowledge of and experience with the staff counsel function and the insurance industry. Must have valid state-issued driver s license in good standing. Juris Doctor degree from ABA accredited law school is required, and member in good standing of the Pennsylvania Bar. 5+ years experience practicing law in Pennsylvania is required.
