Corporate Counsel Intellectual Property Duties: Provide strategic advice regarding opportunities for protecting the company s valuable intellectual property and will further develop and implement structures to maintain the establishment of the company s intellectual property rights. Expected to be highly motivated, results-oriented and hold at least three years of relevant experience. Report to the VP of Legal Affairs and/or to the Director of Legal Affairs and will collaborate with all corporate and manufacturing business units. Coordinate and develop the Company s overall intellectual property effort, providing expertise and advice that enables the business to protect its innovations and grow as a world-wide industry leader. Strategically manages the patent and trademark portfolios globally. Efficiently manages the company s patent and trademark registration efforts, including overseeing outside counsel s drafting and prosecution of patent applications through issuance. Analyze and provide advice regarding patent and trademark searches. Develop intellectual property policy and procedure, and trains develops internal customers on process and related risk management. Draft or review and provide input on a range of commercial agreements implicating intellectual property rights, including third party supply contracts, technology development agreements, confidentiality agreements, team member obligations related to Company intellectual property and other commercial agreements. Protect the intellectual property of Niagara, including but not limited to instituting defensive measures to ensure that Niagara is not infringing upon third party intellectual property and aggressively identifying and pursuing infringers of Niagara s intellectual property, both domestically and internationally. Review team member invention disclosures, including determining an appropriate intellectual property strategy for each innovation and working with outside counsel to draft and prosecute patent applications for selected innovations to ensure that Niagara s inventions are sufficiently protected. Interface with key business teams to cultivate relationships with innovators, capture novel inventions, and obtain patent protection, or maintain trade secret protection, for selected innovations. Qualifications: JD Degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in at least one state in the United States. 3-5 years ?? Experience of legal work as an intellectual property attorney (non-litigation) at an outside firm or as in-house counsel. Experience may include a combination of work experience and education. Preferred: 5-7 years ?? Experience of legal work as an intellectual property attorney (non-litigation) at an outside firm or as in-house counsel. Experience in manufacturing, engineering, and/ or plastics. Experience may include a combination of work experience and education. Demonstrates the skills and behaviors required to achieve individual performance expectations. Seeks to develop technical knowledge through learning from other experts. Ability to provide practical and accurate advice to internal clients related to business objectives and take an active role in driving projects to final result. Integrity, honesty and trustworthiness, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality are also imperative to this role. Proven track record of meeting deadlines, learning quickly, taking the initiative, working proactively, being resourceful and shouldering additional responsibility.
