Privacy Counsel The candidate will report to the Director, US Privacy, and will be a key member of the Global Privacy Office (GPO). The candidate will act as a trusted privacy advisor to the company. Work in an ongoing and collaborative way with other members of the GPO and LPA communities, as well as other business groups, in carrying out his or her responsibilities. Global Privacy Legal Leads are assigned to key business units to enable ongoing, enterprise-wide, privacy governance, management, and legal advice. Additionally, Regional Leads provide support in the AMS, APJ, and EMEA regions. As the Privacy Counsel (US): Global Privacy Legal Lead, will be the global privacy lead for the Consumer Business Unit (CBU), as well as the Regional Lead (US plus Canada and LATAM). Additionally, you will drive and provide support to special projects. Detailed responsibilities include: Monitor the global regulatory environment for and evaluate the impact of emerging and approved privacy regulations, case laws, local laws, best practices, and industry requirements to provide relevant guidance to the Symantec business and drive improvements for the global privacy program, including development of strategic and tactical implementation plans. Review new and modified products, services, and processes, and advise business teams to assure privacy-related requirements are implemented appropriately, including assistance with privacy by design and Data Protection Impact Assessments. Work with other members of the GPO to update program policies, playbooks, and other artifacts and provide related company and team training and communications. Support legal transactions (M&A, procurement, and other teams), including drafting and negotiating customer and supplier agreements as needed. Support privacy incident response activities. Support regulator and customer inquiries and compliance.

The candidate should have active membership in at least one U.S. state Bar. CIPP certification a plus. Should have 5-7 years experience handling complex privacy and data protection legal matters. In-house experience a plus. Must have strong substantive knowledge of U.S. privacy and data protection laws as well as international privacy and data protection laws. Should have experience with consumer products, online and mobile privacy, e-commerce, cloud computing, cyber security, big-data analytics, and data governance. Should have ability to manage a diverse and complex workload while maintaining priorities and proactively anticipating issues in a fast-paced corporate setting. Sound appreciation for risk tolerance and stabilizing opposing interests, priorities, and timelines is required.
