Associate Counsel, Labor And Employment

Associate Counsel, Labor and Employment Responsibilities: Work with the business team on a variety of labor and employment issues, including counseling, investigations, disputes and compliance with labor and employment laws. Conduct and manage internal investigations. Research and draft position statements in respond to administrative charges. Draft, review and implement HR related policies. Draft and present training on labor and employment issues. Stay apprised of best practices, trends and developments in labor/employment law. Work closely with the in-house legal team and business partners to best manage legal risk and proactively avoid issues. Effectively manage outside counsel and related matter budgets. Support organization-wide legal projects and initiatives, as necessary. Provide counsel on additional matters as needed and directed by management.

Requirements: JD Degree from an ABA accredited law school. A member in good standing of any state Bar (if not already admitted in New Jersey, the successful candidate will need to obtain a New Jersey in-house bar admission). 5-7 years of legal experience in the labor and employment field preferred. Note that traditional labor experience is key. A combination of law firm and in-house labor and employment experience is a plus, as is experience on behalf of the food industry. A strong background in providing practical, actionable advice, developing and implementing strategy, and advocating in court and before administrative agencies or other adjudicative bodies in employment and traditional labor matters. Excellent analytical and communication skills, both oral and written. Must be creative, exercise good judgment, and be a quick decision maker and self-starter. Demonstrated team player with strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to interact effectively and efficiently with business partners on a daily basis and operate with limited supervision.
