Corporate Counsel The candidate will be responsible for the legal support of the Construction Department, including oversight of the Contract Administrator and parallel non-legal staff members, and preparing, reviewing, and negotiating construction contracts and all other corporate contracts on behalf of the company. Will also research and analyze statutes and case law regarding contract issues, real estate, and construction - related questions that arise during the course of business practice. The position requires an abundance of communication , both written and verbal , with a wide variety of people throughout the company and third parties. Must exhibit strong commitment to the service needs of the internal and external customer and represent the company in a professional and courteous manner. Reviewing and negotiating terms in construction and corporate contracts with third parties to ensure compliance with company standards and to identify and mitigate potential liability issues. Researching and analyzing statutes and case law regarding contract issues, ADA, construction and real estate that arise in the course of business practice. Advising on legal risks and, working with employees in all departments, continually assisting to improve company practices and policies to provide effective solutions. Coordinating with and managing outside counsel as needed. Keeping abreast of legislative changes that may affect the company and its operations, and evaluating for continual improvement. Partnering with the company s Construction Department to evaluate current and future construction and contract policies for legal liability issues and effectively communicating potential company liability to necessary parties. Other duties as assigned. The candidate should have Juris Doctorate Degree. Must be Member of a state bar, with a license in good standing. Must have 3-5 years ?¢ experience in the legal practice, with 2-3 years in a law firm setting. Must have Legal knowledge and experience in the areas of Construction and Contract Law. Proficiency in MS Office Suite is required. Contract negotiating and management skills/experience is desired. Legal research and strong written communication skills is desired. Knowledge of ADA, UCC, Fair Housing and other laws impacting the multifamily ownership, management and construction industries preferred is desired. Regulatory compliance knowledge helpful. Strong organizational and communication skills is desired.
