Complex Litigation Attorney The candidate will independently and aggressively defend a caseload of complex and high exposure construction site accidents, products liability, auto, and general liability cases from inception through trial. Analyze complex legal, factual and damages issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients. Prepare pleadings, written discovery, motions, and briefs in support of defense strategies. Provide effective and timely information, case evaluations, legal advice and other services, in a technology driven environment, to clients and claim handlers involving complex and high exposure matters. Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures. Responsible for the prompt, efficient, and effective disposition of assigned cases. Independently conduct trials, depositions, arbitration, and mediation. Research, draft, and argue motions and appeals. Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain a high level of professional expertise. The candidate should have J.D. Degree from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of New York. Should be a member in good standing of all state and Federal bars where attorney has been admitted. Must have minimum of 15-20 years of law practice with a focus on complex insurance defense cases. Should have law firm experience desirable; carrier and self-insured experience will also be considered. Should have experience cross-examining doctors, engineers, and other industry professionals and subject matter experts required. Should have experience litigating construction site accidents is required; additional experience with complex cases in products liability, auto, and general liability cases strongly preferred. A minimum of approximately 20 first chair jury verdicts is required. Significant experience aggressively pursuing risk transfer is required. Should have collegial and team-oriented; strong relationship and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, clients, colleagues and insureds. Must have top-notch research and writing skills, excellent verbal communication skills; strong presentation skills.Should have highly organized and very technology savvy; paperless environment experience desirable.
