Associate General Counsel, Global Employment, Benefits & Labor Law The candidate join Global Employment, Benefits & Labor Law (Global EB&L Law) department as Associate General Counsel, Global EB&L Law, to support the Corporate Function Compliance Program ( CFCP ) for Human Resources. This role will be based at TIAA s corporate campus in Charlotte, NC and will report to the Head of Global EB&L Law. Act as the EB&L Law liaison to the Corporate Function Compliance Program ( CFCP ). Provide legal advice and guidance to the Human Resources ( HR ) CFCP. Oversee tracking of new laws, regulations, regulatory guidance for inclusion in the HR inventory. Advise regarding what actions need to be taken to comply with any new legal requirements (e.g. modifications or additions to HR policies, procedures, templates, training, etc) and, in conjunction with HR and Compliance, oversee implementation of the required actions. In support of the CFCP, and working as appropriate with corporate partners (e.g., HR, Compliance, Risk, Audit), assess risk and necessary controls to mitigate risk, assess monitoring and testing necessary to ensure compliance with legal/policy/procedural standards, and advise on prioritization of initiatives developed from these assessments. Manage, or provide support for, regulatory examination with respect to employment-related matters. Assist in, or lead, preparation and presentation of reports related to the HR CFCP.

A JD degree from an ABA accredited law school and member in good standing of state bar is required. Should have 6+ years of employment law experience. Must have experience with federal, state and local employment laws (e.g. FMLA, ADA, and FLSA). Preferred: Experience working on compliance-related issues, or providing advice and guidance in the context of compliance programs. Experience providing advice and counsel on complex legal issues and representing clients in regulatory matters, litigation and other legal proceedings. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide hands-on counseling at all levels and simplify complex legal concepts for HR professionals and management. Excellent business judgment and strategic thinking with solid understanding of business operations. Excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong drafting skills with the ability to carefully review documents demonstrating organization and attention to detail. Knowledge of ex-U.S. employment laws a plus.
