Director Labor and Employment Counsel The candidate partners with the Vice President Associate General Counsel to develop and execute the strategy for Crewmember relations and provides oversight of the legal process for operational compliance. The Director Labor and Employment Counsel is a key member of the Legal team that is dedicated to developing the strategy to preserve the direct relationship. The Director is an effective communicator and enjoys interacting with people at different levels within the organization and building and maintaining relationships. The Director is comfortable working in a non-routine environment and delivering unpopular messages if necessary. The Director is a skilled influencer and an effective leader whose personal values match company s values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Fun, and Passion. Oversee and manage all labor and employment matters. Advise general counsel and Executive Leadership Team on crewmember relations strategies. Provide support for People leadership team on all HR-legal matters, including wage and hour issues, Title VII, NLRA/RLA, ADA, ADEA, ERISA, USERRA, and FMLA. Select and oversee outside counsel on all labor and employment matters, including administrative EEO charges, litigations, and arbitrations. Prepare and conduct trainings on various labor and employment law topics, including harassment training and positive crew relations. Draft, review, and revise people-related company policies and procedures. Develop and execute the strategy for Preserve the Direct Relationship (PDR), including union avoidance and employment agreement. Perform legal research of aviation, commercial, international, compliance, and people-related issues. Provide legal advice and counsel on a wide range of people and compliance issues. Negotiate with and manage outside legal counsel retained to provide assistance in labor and employment issues. Collaborate with Values Relations to engage in strategies to preserve the direct relationship. Support Values Relations in negotiating and drafting applicable work group agreements. Represent company in grievance hearings and pre-hearing mediations and System Board meetings. Collaborate with other business areas in improving communication and teamwork to drive efficiencies. Take a significant role in the development of Crewmembers to support the engagement, growth, goal achievement, and development of the succession plan for the department. Other duties as assigned.

The candidate should have Law degree and admission to the Bar of a state or jurisdiction of the United States. Must have 7+ years experience in a corporate environment with responsibilities in Labor or Employee Relations Six (6) years major law firm or applicable government agency experience. Experience providing counsel on a wide range of legal matters is required. Commercial airline operations experience preferred. Legal research, writing, and presentation skills preferred. Knowledge of Labor Relations laws and best practices is needed. Preferred Experience and Qualifications: Consulting on HR-related topics, including Title VII, NLRA/RLA, ADA, ADEA, ERISA, USERRA, and FMLA. Working with other countries, including local counsel. Conducting HR-related training sessions; Managing a budget. Managing a cross-functional project with senior leadership. Presenting to large audiences, including senior leadership. Maintaining relationships within internal and external parties. Negotiating and/or interpreting a contract or employment agreement. Knowledge of the regulatory airport environment, including the FAA is required. Knowledge of other disciplines within the airport and their role is required.
