Senior Counsel Labor and Employment The candidate will provide advice and counsel on matters related to Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, and other federal/state/local employment laws and regulations. Will build and maintain positive relationships with Human Resources and business clients to proactively assist with achieving business objectives in a high-volume, dynamic environment. Prepare and conduct training on employment law matters. Provide legal counsel and advice related to performance management and termination of employees with sensitivity to minimizing legal risks and identifying potential liabilities. Draft and review employment agreements, including job offers, settlement agreements, severance documents, and waivers and releases. Conduct and manage investigations regarding employee misconduct and ethics violations. Represent the company in pre-litigation employment disputes, including responding to attorney letters and discrimination charges filed before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and state regulatory agencies. Manage outside counsel as needed.

The candidate should have a JD degree from an accredited U.S. law school with strong academic credentials. Must be current member in good standing in State Bar. Should have 6-10 years of experience counseling clients regarding employment law issues, preferably with a large law firm and corporate legal department. Extensive knowledge of employment laws and experience giving advice and counsel to HR professionals on employment matters needed. Knowledge of California Labor and Employment and Wage and Hour laws is strongly preferred. Strong communication skills, particularly drafting, negotiation and responsiveness, are required.
