Deputy General Counsel - Real Estate Leasing and Operations The candidate provides oversight and legal support to firm real estate staff who are responsible for managing the all-agency real estate property and facilities, including the lease portfolio. Supervises two or three Senior Associate Counsel staff. Coordinates on overlapping real estate-related legal issues with the Deputy General Counsel-Real Estate Planning and Development. Be accountable for generally one and sometimes more highly specialized areas for the firm, such as real estate and commercial landlord-tenant issues. Supervise a group of attorneys and provide guidance, advice, and general supervision to them. Review of work for legal comment from an expert point of view, and will encourage development of staff. Conduct legal matters at the highest level and will represent the firm and or its operating agencies in major legal actions involving the firm. Perform expert legal work in-house with quality representation will assure the firm of substantial savings compared to outside counsel. Oversee general operations of their area, including reviewing all costs of outside attorney services, supervision of such outside work, and review of all work being performed, to assure that when outside legal services are utilized the firm obtains the best service at the most reasonable rates for work performed. Ensure high quality representation and a consistent approach to the firm legal approaches in a specific area by maintaining ongoing high-level communication with the agency legal depts. and agency management. Provides legal advice and counsel to legal support to the firm Headquarters Real Estate team. Review, analyze, draft and negotiate a broad variety of complex real estate related leases and licenses. Provide legal and business advice regarding complex enterprise-wide contract negotiations for real estate related matters, including telecommunications and wireless agreements. Advise firm Real Estate team and business unit clients regarding legal and business risks. Supervise the Real Estate leasing and operations legal group, including: management and control of and responsibility for drafting/updating of real estate boilerplate form documentation and a real estate form library, with a heavy emphasis on leases, licenses, easements and permits and implementation of legal training program.

The candidate should have a Law degree from an accredited law school. Excellent academic credentials. Admitted to practice law in New York is needed. Should have 10+ years of relevant legal and managerial experience in high level positions at a law firm, governmental legal office or at a private sector legal department. Significant experience as the lead lawyer on sophisticated real estate transactions, leasing and property management matters needed. Excellent negotiating, drafting, and practice-management skills and business judgment. Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem solving, organizational, drafting and communication skills.
