Assistant General Counsel - Employment Counsel, North America Candidate will be working in a global law department that has attorneys on three continents and a senior management team. Will provide practical advice and counseling regarding labor and employment issues including discrimination, disability accommodation, hiring, performance management, discharge/termination, wage and hour, FMLA/ADA, employee privacy, non-compete agreements, protection of trade secrets, EEOC, employee benefits, and other relevant labor and employment issues. Will report directly to the General Counsel. It is anticipated that there may be some international travel.

Qualifications: JD Degree from a respected law school. Excellent academic credentials. 8+ years of professional legal experience. Strong US labor and employment experience. Experience in discipline, counseling, and termination of employees, including determining whether severance is appropriate as well as providing written warnings and separation agreements. Has worked at a large law firm and preferably in house at a large global public corporation. Strong U.S. labor and employment background who could grow into a broader role involving both domestic and international labor and employment matters. Interpersonal Skills. Personal and professional integrity of the highest order. Someone with the strength of character to refuse to cover up problems and elevate them to senior management. Superior intellect, with the ability to think critically and make clear and well-reasoned decisions. Strong business sense and the desire to be a part of a business leadership team. Able to find creative solutions to complex legal problems while maintaining the Companys legal and ethical responsibilities. Strength of character to take and sustain difficult positions; able to say yes , and to say no without alienating others. A mature and confident team player who is comfortable in a non-hierarchical, informal environment where ones recommendations are being constantly challenged by highly intelligent colleagues. Communicates in a clear, concise, understandable manner, both orally and in writing; ability to convey complex legal issues in a manner useful to management. Has a high level of energy, enthusiasm and motivation, along with the skills to help make the company successful. Someone down to earth who does not hold much stock in status but rather is motivated by the opportunity to become fully integrated with the business. Brings a level of international sophistication. Is used to dealing with colleagues from different cultures and has an appreciation of cultural difference.
