Corporate Counsel II The candidate will be managing assigned cases and matters covering a variety of commercial disputes and lawsuits. Will be liaising with Legal Department colleagues and the relevant business personnel, on a worldwide basis, to manage cases and matters in an efficient and effective manner. Analyzing claims and pleadings; researching case law; developing defenses; drafting position statements and briefs; monitoring dockets; and understanding the business objectives and advising the business on best strategy to address each matter. Managing outside counsel, including budgeting and oversight of work product, to ensure effective execution of firms objectives. Acting as primary in-house legal counsel to the Human Resources, Environmental, Health & Safety, and Customs functions. Staying abreast of industry trends and the regulatory framework in which the Company operates. Operating independently and developing business relationships to foster greater involvement of the legal team on a proactive basis. Supervising, motivating, and leading other professionals. The candidate must have Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school, admitted to practice in one state (Michigan preferred), and currently in good standing in all jurisdictions to which the candidate has been admitted. Must have 6+ years of legal practice in a leading law firm or corporate in-house environment focused on litigation and dispute resolution. Prior in-house experience is a plus. Must have expertise in civil litigation, including substantial experience in discovery, motion practice, and/or trial is required. Spanish language skills a plus. Must have excellent management and project management skills and business judgment with a capacity to make decisions and give practical business/legal advice. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present information and reports to management timely, clearly, and concisely.
