Sr Corporate Counsel - Open Source Location: San Jose, California, US Additional Location(s) San Jose Only Area of Interest Legal Job Type Professional Technology Interest *None Job Id 1244588 New What You'll Do As part of the Open Source team in teh Tachnolgy Acquisition legal group you will advise internal engineering, business, and sales teams on licensing, usage, compliance, risk, mitigation, and community relation matters, often in high-pressure situations or on tight timelines. You will also advise and collaborate with cross-functional operations teams on policy, process, and tooling. You will help lead education and training programs across the business. You will support other attorneys on questions in a variety of contexts and draft and negotiate IP licensing terms in technology transactions with customers and suppliers. You should have experience in supporting and advising on Ciscos contributions to the legal community and participation in industry-wide projects and consortia. You will also support and advise on M&A integration activity as well as provide analysis and mentorship on general IP matters, including infringement. You will work with engineers and engineering project managers on technical issues such as software architecture and drive optimization and scalability of legal support model including updating and crafting new templates, processes, policies, trainings, and knowledge sharing resources. The position will cover a wide range of areas including compliance counseling and licensing, technology transactions, and acquisition integration. Who You Are You have the ability to develop relationships with critical players in the software development lifecycle and release environment. You also have a successful track record working in a dynamic, ever-changing environment with a proven passion for problem-solving and thinking outside-the-box to get the best business outcomes. The Required Qualifications for this role are: JD degree with membership in at least one state bar Excellent academic credentials 5+ years of legal experience, with a minimum two years in open source domain Open source licensing experience Technology transaction and IP licensing experience Experience advising engineers/engineering teams on legal matters Interest in supporting internal compliance, operations, and process functions Proven excellent drafting and negotiation skills Influencing skills Computer science or engineering degree (or equivalent experience) - preferred Experience navigating a large company or organization (10k+ employees) Patent experience M&A experience Standards organization (SDO) experience Product counseling experience Why Cisco At Cisco, each person brings their unique talents to work as a team and make a difference.
