Corporate Counsel Responsibilities: Supports and advises residential and commercial development operations drafting purchase and sale agreements, close land transactions, prepare platting documents necessary to plat parcels, draft easements, storm water discharge maintenance agreements and related documents in addition to drafting development agreements with municipalities for tax abatement, tax rebate, tax increment financing and related subsidies. Supports and advises residential and commercial construction operations drafting construction agreements, interpreting various ordinances, regulations and laws, and coordinating warranty and collection matters. Reviews and maintains standard AIA contracts or other construction contracts as needed for the operations and stay apprised of industry changes. Supports and advises commercial property management operations with drafting leases, estoppels, affidavits, and other commercial documents together with providing support managing tenant relationships receiverships and coordinating collections matter. Supports and advises apartment management operations with drafting leases, management agreements, and other residential documents together with providing support to regional managers and property managers and coordinating eviction and collections matters. Supports and advises community management operations with drafting covenants, assisting in coordinating annual meetings for owner associations, interpreting homeowner association declarations, covenants and related documents and as necessary, drafting amendments or revisions to declarations and covenants. Supports and advises the Accounting and Finance Department on land transactions, loan documents, and other agreements and supports and advises the Finance Department with equity and debt documents. Manages internally any litigious matters, and manages outside counsel for all material litigation claims, and manages litigation costs and time while achieving desired results. Maintains and updates governing documents for current entities affiliated with , dissolves entities that no longer own property, and prepares new governing documents as needed for entities affiliated with Company. Supports and advises all operations and support departments with contract reviews, drafting new contracts and standard contracts, and contract management and retention. Researches various legal issues and gathers other data, information, and materials for the Legal Department and the company and such other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications: License to practice law in Iowa required and license to practice law in Nebraska and/or South Dakota is desirable. 5+ years experience practicing law in the real estate industry required. Advanced-level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel required. Excellent spelling and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail. Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills. Positive attitude and teamwork mentality required.
