Director and Corporate Counsel Responsibilities: Leading and managing all general liability claims and litigation matters, including being the primary point of contact for insurance claims agents and outside counsel. Analyzing, developing and delivering litigation and dispute resolution strategies in line with business requirements to reduce risks. Ensuring that services are timely, targeted and of the highest quality. Facilitating and coordinating production of discovery documents and electronically stored information, including remaining current on use of electronic discovery services and other litigation tools to efficiently manage claims and cases. Reviewing pleadings, motions and briefs prepared by outside counsel. Serving as liaison between internal business personnel and outside counsel for purposes of defending and/or prosecuting litigation, including witness preparation and background investigations. Coordinating and handling litigation reporting and public litigation disclosure and ensuring quality and consistency of reporting. Tracking and advising the Assistant General Counsel and the General Counsel on claims and litigation developments, exposures, and strategies for minimizing adverse consequences from disputes. Monitoring licensing requirements for its cemeteries and funeral homes, including overseeing the licensing team, ensuring that all licenses are obtained/maintained in a timely manner. Counseling internal business clients regarding and handling pre-litigation dispute resolution, as well as advising clients on various legal matters, including contract interpretation. Enhancing the legal departments effectiveness through active participation in staff meetings and trainings, and maintaining positive interaction with corporate and business clients. Developing a keen understanding of the business strategy and its business system.

Qualifications: JD Degree from a nationally recognized law school and a member in good standing of at least one State Bar. 3-5 years of litigation experience in a law firm, handling all aspects of litigation. Demonstrated and advanced knowledge and understanding of litigation practice, in a range of areas, including general liability, commercial disputes, personal injury and tort related cases. Ability to manage a heavy workload in a high-pressure environment. Ability to exercise a high degree of discretion and good judgment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills within and across departments and externally. Strong writing skills and attention to detail. Good team-player, self-confident and a self-starter. Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization and outside counsel. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong financial and business acumen. Excellent computer skills and deep experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail and Google Chrome.
