Privacy Counsel RESPONSIBILITIES: Advise on compliance with US and European privacy laws and regulations, including CCPA, data protection, data retention, data security and data breach rules. Assist in the continued development and improvement of all aspects of privacy program (privacy by design, data handling standards, privacy policies, staff training, etc.) and data sharing framework and ensure compliance with CCPA and other relevant laws in the US. Review and negotiate agreements with vendors and consultants with respect to issues involving privacy and data use. Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal, state and European privacy laws and accreditation standards, monitor emerging regulatory changes, and monitor advancements in information privacy technologies to ensure organizational adaptation and compliance. Work with audit to review existing contracts and systems to ensure that we and our vendors/contractors comply with privacy and data protection laws and adhere to best practices for data security. Reflect regulatory and industry best practices and strategies in regard to new privacy laws, rules and regulations, advise and inform management of such legal developments, review and draft appropriate corporate policies and lead a sustained, effective effort to enforce Company policies and procedures. Ensure that has in place effective privacy compliance training for employees and be responsible for overseeing an effective system of scheduling such training and maintaining accurate records of employee participation. Develop, implement and administer an effective general legal Compliance Program. Will include compliance by the organization and its employees with applicable laws, rules and regulations governing the Company or its activities and compliance with internal systems of control designed to achieve compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS: Member of the California Bar in good standing. Certifications such as CIPP, CIPM, CISSP strongly preferred. 7+ years prior experience in a law firm or in-house with focus on privacy and compliance issues and primarily with applying U.S. privacy, data protection, advertising and consumer protection laws and regulations. Working knowledge of CCPA is required. Experience with REITs and/or real estate companies preferred. Experience with developing and implementing a general compliance program is preferred. Working knowledge of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requirements preferred. Exceptional organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Strong work ethic with a positive, can-do attitude. Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects as well as strong follow through skills. Ability to work well with others and communicate diplomatically with corporate senior executives and staff, in a fast paced, team-oriented and dynamic environment.
