Associate Litigation Counsel

Associate Litigation Counsel The candidate will judge the merits of claims and court cases filed against or on behalf of the company, work with the appropriate business partner(s) to define a strategic defense and approves settlements of disputes where warranted. Oversee the selection, retention, management and evaluation of all outside counsel. Provide strategic and proactive legal advice and counseling. Develop and maintain strong business relationships as a key relationship manager for the legal department among the various internal business groups requiring litigation support. Provide a balanced and integrated aspect of both business and law; while advising the company on litigation risks of possible business decisions and managing litigation. Demonstrate leadership and team-working skills in support of a collaborative environment. Oversight of paralegals and other legal staff. Provide legal guidance and advice on the interpretation, implementation and administration of policies and procedures; drafts memoranda, contracts, policies, procedures and legal documents as needed. Prepare responses to and represent the company and subsidiary organizations regarding complaints/claims filed with federal, state, and/or municipal agencies or courts, as well as third-party organizations. Perform legal research, analyze, organize, and strategize effectively. Contribute to Legal team efforts to improve internal process and efficiency. Exercise discretion and independent judgment commensurate with specialized legal skills and experience. Create and maintain a work environment that promotes client service, teamwork, performance feedback, recognition, mutual respect, and employee satisfaction that encompass the company's core values. Should have 3+ years experience in a law firm environment as practicing litigation lawyer, preferably with a prominent national law firm before moving to an in-house position. Prior experience in real property law, including residential real estate transactions, business law, and contract law is required. Experience working with HUD or CFPB and with such consumer regulations as RESPA and GLBA a plus. Juris Doctorate from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association is required. Should have admission to at least one state bar and currently in good standing. Admission to the California bar is preferable.
