Counsel, Group Insurance The candidate will provide general legal support and direction to the Group Protection business unit, with a concentration on negotiating and drafting customer agreements and helping the business respond to Requests for Proposals (RFPs). Counsels internal clients on issues related to customer agreements, such as master services agreements, administrative services agreements for Lincolns self-insured claim administration offerings, nondisclosure agreements, and other contracts with third parties. Negotiates and drafts customer agreements related to group insurance products and services provided by the Group Protection business. Identifies legal exposure and risk, and recommends remediation plans to management in a timely and proactive manner. Maintains knowledge of current and emerging developments/trends related to group insurance products, and collaborates with legal colleagues and internal business partners to identify opportunities for innovation and process improvements. Provides legal review and counsel on legal risk associated with complex business issues. Performs complex legal research and analysis to ensure compliance with laws and regulations affecting group insurance. Develops working knowledge of ERISA, HIPAA, GLBA, and other laws relevant to GP's products and services. Provides legal support across the multiple business areas impacted by customer agreements and RFPs. Helps create and revise standardized set of responses. Reviews and redlines master service agreements, terms and conditions, and other contracts that require comment during the RFP process. Provides responses to range of questions from prospective customers that require legal review. Reviews and redlines master service agreements, terms and conditions, and other contracts that require comment during the RFP process. Reviews, revises and negotiates sales-related confidentiality agreements. Coordinates responses from subject matter experts across various legal and business functions (e.g., Privacy, Risk Management, Information Security). Manages relationships with business areas through ongoing communication and involvement with projects. Directs and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility. Identifies and directs strategic process improvements that significantly reduce workloads or improve quality across the team, department and/or business unit for assigned area(s) of responsibility. Serves as a department subject matter expert for specific products and laws. Acts as a thought leader who is sought out for advice, counsel and judgment. Complies with all company and site policies and procedu

Must have J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and member of a state bar in good standing is required. Should have 5+ Years law experience at a large law firm and/or corporate legal department or equivalent experience Must have demonstrated ability to work efficiently and effectively with legal and compliance team members and with business leaders at multiple levels of organization. Understanding of group insurance concepts, knowledge of key industry trends and excellent business acumen is required. Ability: Ability to prioritize and respond to multiple requests for review. Ability to efficiently read and interpret legal documents such as insurance policies & contracts. Ability to efficiently read and interpret statutes, regulations and other legal authorities. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from diverse audiences including consultants, senior leadership and other stakeholders. Ability to apply applicable law to and draw appropriate conclusions from established facts. Ability to gauge the level of detail appropriate for different audiences. Ability to gather facts from various sources and take initiative to get information that is not provided. Ability to perform other duties as required.
