Counsel- Employment Law The candidate Directly manages matter work and oversees outside counsel. Advanced Legal Degree or local country equivalent degree usually required. Progression to this level usually requires licensure/certification by the local country or jurisdiction. In some jurisdictions, may not require licensure or certification for placement in the role; in others, licensure/certification is required. 3-5 years minimum of total work experience as a qualified attorney is preferred. Prior corporate legal experience within the financial services industry or experience in assigned practice area (e.g., securities, employment, etc.) with an outside law firm is preferred. Should have strong leadership skills, to motivate and direct individuals. Must have strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate and interact with individuals on different levels both internal and external to the Legal Department. 3 years of experience as a practicing employment attorney preferred. Must have strong working knowledge of federal, state and city employment laws and regulations and provide ability to capably advise, counsel and train clients on the same. Must also have strong negotiation and employment litigation experience as well as experience in handling charges of discrimination filed with federal, state and city human rights commissions. Must have the demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and drive them to conclusion in a timely manner. Also, the candidate must have deep experience drafting and negotiating employment and separation agreements.
