Corporate Attorney II Duties: Participates in the development of policies in the immediate managers organization, and interprets such policies throughout the department. Develops objectives, policies and procedures for the approval of immediate manager. Interprets and administers programs and procedures in accordance with approved policies. Performs special assignments for immediate manager as requested. Reports performance to immediate manager. Coordinates expense budget spending for the department to maintain performance within budget. Develops a suitable successor and assumes responsibility for training replacements at all levels within the department. Handles all aspects of federal/state administrative claims and lawsuit management of Workers Compensation, FELA and other related claims and lawsuits under the supervision and management of the Director, Workers Compensation. Provides support and guidance related to the matter types detailed above to SEPTA employees and management personnel on behalf of the Office of General Counsel when assigned. Demonstrates a level of expertise and competence to independently handle all Workers Compensation matters brought against SEPTA. Reviews and investigates claims and lawsuits in Workers Compensation, FELA and Insurance areas. Conducts legal research required to complete understanding of material issues. Interviews witnesses. Drafts pleadings, briefs and discovery. Presents argument to State Workers Compensation Judges in support of arguments made on behalf of client. Handles expert witnesses and related issues. Prepares for and conducts or defends fact and expert witness depositions. Prepares for and represents SEPTA at pre-trial court hearings. Prepares cases for trial and participates in trying the case. Represents SEPTA in the defense of Workers Compensation and FELA claims from the outset of those claims through final resolution. Manages outside counsels internal administrative reporting requirements. Manages Legal Files claim data and discovery input on Workers Compensation and FELA matters. Assists Director and/or Special Counsel with the management of outside counsel on Workers Compensation and FELA matters. Engages in direct communications with client to collect, analyze, and interpret all pertinent facts and circumstances related to a matter. Makes recommendations to the Director and/or Special Counsel as to how matters should be handled, explains justification for said recommendations, identifies risks and challenges, as well as benefits and potential for favorable outcomes. Understands internal policies and procedures and assists the Director and/or Special Counsel in preparing, amending or advising clients concerning those policies and procedures. Keeps client department staff informed on the progress of the handling of a matter and any legal issues related thereto. Organizes facts, shapes legal theories, and determines applicable foundational terms pertaining to legal matters and then drafts appropriate documents that accurately, clearly and thoroughly incorporates all of these. Works with client department staff to ensure that all aspects of an undertaking are reflected correctly and fully in the legal document. Works with Special Counsel and/or Deputy General Counsel to finalize the structure, content and style of the legal documents, so that they will meet the standards of General Counsel and is ready for Special Counsel or Deputy General Counsel to approve as to form. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a JD Degree from an accredited law school in the United States and 4+ years of experience in the legal field required. Corporate litigation experience specifically related to FELA defense and/or workers compensation defense required. Admission to practice law before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania required. Must display a high degree of professionalism and competence. Must be able to handle pennsylvania workers compensation claims from administrative inception through appeals. Excellent writing, verbal communications and interpersonal skills required. Must be organized and self-motivated. End Date: 5/28/2019
