Senior Legal Counsel, Labor and Employment Law The candidate will apply in-depth practical knowledge of the laws governing employment and labor relations and litigation, provides legal analysis, advice and counsel on a broad array of employment and labor law matters to all levels of management and Human Resources with a demonstrated ability to effectively and independently manage complex litigation. Will determine matter strategy and accurately analyzes risks and recommends alternative approaches to problem resolution. Develops and maintains a strong knowledge of the regulatory environment affecting Human Resources and management. Efficiently resolves legal issues without step-by-step guidance. Collaborates well with team members and colleagues across the corporate enterprise. Effectively builds and manages relationships with outside counsel partners, clients and senior level management. Responsible for providing day-to-day employment and labor law advice and counsel to Human Resources and management clients on a broad array of matters and subjects. Work closely with internal clients to provide creative, proactive, solution-oriented advice to support and protect management and Human Resource business goals and objectives. Responsible for developing and maintaining a strong understanding of the key aspects of Cigna s global strategy and the particular strategies of its business lines to effectively advise clients on substantive employment and labor law issues facing them from both compliance and litigation perspectives. Responsible for managing shifting priorities and a heavy litigation caseload of open matters, working collaboratively with others in the Legal Department and other areas of the Company, and effectively managing outside counsel partners.

The candidate should have Law degree from an accredited school of law. Must have 8-10 years experience in employment and labor law litigation and counseling. Must be Licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Must have some experience with agency audits and a working knowledge of traditional labor relations, the NLRA and immigration law compliance. In house corporate experience is plus; however, the successful candidate must have private practice experience with a firm or firms engaging in labor and employment law litigation. Trial experience necessary. General employment law litigation experience before federal and state courts and agencies is required. Must have experience in advising and counseling management clients as to employment law compliance matters.
