Senior Legal Counsel - Privacy The candidate will serve as a key subject matter expert and advisor to firm's lawyers and business units on privacy and data protection issues in commercial negotiations. Draft and negotiate the privacy and data protection aspects of complex agreements ranging from professional services, development, and supplier agreements with various merchants, partners and vendors. Advise firm's Human Resources (HR) senior leaders and operational teams on matters involving the processing of employee personal data to help maintain compliant privacy and data protection practices across the global HR function. Provide training to legal colleagues to help them advise their clients regarding privacy and data protection issues in commercial and HR matters, as well as develop and maintain guidelines, playbooks, templated terms, and other resources. Help to ensure adherence to global privacy and data protection laws, while enabling the development and execution of business initiatives. Coordinate with regional lawyers to evaluate and, where appropriate, help design products, services and technologies for compliance with local data privacy regulations. Collaborate with Compliance colleagues, the Global Privacy Office and firm'ss International Data Protection Officer (DPO) to develop, enhance and implement the firm's Global Privacy Framework in markets where firm's operates. Support the Global Privacy Office in the continued development and implementation of the Data Privacy Impact Assessment program. Advise on new and emerging legal and regulatory developments impacting data privacy and data security, including identifying trends and potential impacts on business activities. Understand and advise on the privacy and data protection legal requirements applicable to complex data flows across the data lifecycle. Collaborate and coordinate with government relations teams to proactively monitor and review privacy and data-protection related legislation in order to help ensure accurate and up-to-date inventories of all legal obligations.

The candidate must have deep, demonstrable privacy, data protection, and program management skills and expertise, with an emphasis on financial and/or employee privacy laws. Specific experience with privacy and data protection laws, including GLBA, CCPA, LGPD, CAN-SPAM, HIPAA, GDPR, e-Privacy Directive, and other applicable laws is required. Should have experience providing risk-based and pragmatic resolution of outstanding privacy and data protection aspects of commercial negotiations, leveraging in a quick, concise and commercially focused legal advice. Must have in-depth knowledge of cutting-edge IT, web, mobile, and payment ecosystem technologies (especially those used in the collection, storage and analysis of data) and their privacy and data security implications. Should have familiarity with, and strong interest in, financial services technology, mobile and alternative payments, as well as emerging technology. Must have ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to tolerate change and ambiguity. Should have demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team, to effectively coach and mentor others (including non-attorneys), and a sense of humor and resiliency, especially under tight deadlines and while managing multiple priorities. Must have 7+ years of experience practicing either in-house (or in an equivalent setting) or at a reputable law firm. Must have Juris Doctorate degree or equivalent degree. Should be admitted to a state bar. Must have exceptional writing skills, with attention to detail and ability to generate creative original drafted documents. Should have excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to communicate and help non-experts understand applicable regulations and requirements. Experience advising clients in the financial services, mobile payments, internet and technology industries preferred. Relevant technical certifications, such as a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or other relevant certifications preferred.
