Litigation Counsel The candidate will be responsible for providing strategic advice and oversight for active litigation matters, including reviewing pleadings, motions, discovery and other legal documents. Offering hands-on advice and counsel to various internal clients to proactively address and resolve potential disputes while both mitigating risk and supporting business objectives. Supervising and directing outside counsel to successfully, efficiently, and cost-effectively resolve disputes. Working with and advising business clients directly, as well as providing guidance and practical solutions on a wide variety of legal issues. Providing strategic legal advice and direction to business and legal partners related to litigation, dispute resolutions, product development, and federal regulatory issues. Maintaining and developing, as needed, appropriate litigation policies, systems and defenses relevant to the companys operations, including document hold and production policies. Prompt review and processing of legal bills for counsel in assigned jurisdictions via e-billing systems. Analyzing claim and expense data to assist in cost containment and budget management. The candidate must have J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials and demonstrated a record of success as a lawyer. Should be member of California Bar. Must have 3-5 years of commercial and product liability litigation experience. Must have demonstrated record for success strategizing, handling and managing complex disputes to a successful resolution. Should have experience handling all phases of litigation, including depositions, court appearances, law and motion, discovery, settlement negotiations, and trial. Should have outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to advocate for a position while maintaining a collaborative and open-minded approach. Must have proven ability to work in a team-driven, business-centered environment. Should be self-starter with a sense of urgency, ability to multi-task, ability to handle unanticipated situations effectively and work well under pressure with tight deadlines. Should preferably have experience advising clients in a heavily regulated industry, with an understanding of the state and federal regulatory framework. Experience litigating for medical device or pharmaceutical companies is desired. National law firm experience and/or experience working in house in a global legal department is desired.
