Litigation Attorney

Litigation Attorney Responsibilities: Represent the company with respect to claims concerning insurance coverage and extra- contractual disputes and lawsuits involving automobile and homeowner policies. Capably investigate claims and lawsuits and subsequently pursue, present and negotiate resolutions. Conduct all phases of litigation including discovery, motions, mediations and trials. Legal file review for coverage and extra-contractual issues. Conduct pre-trial discovery and appear at motions, hearings, arbitrations and trial. Legal research (Lexis) on various legal issues involving civil procedure, and claims. Retention and oversight of expert witnesses. Regularly advise claims personnel on their handling of pre-litigation claims. Get along with claims personnel to investigate and evaluate claims of bad faith and improper coverage decisions.

Qualifications: JD Degree. State Bar License in State of California. 8+ years experience in P&C liability defense or plaintiff PI, preferred. Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing in an organized and timely manner and to expertly own a material caseload. Strong interpersonal skills. Computer skill proficiency, MS Office, online research tools such as Lexis. Knowledge of current law and issues within area of specialty, including general liability insurance coverage and extra-contractual liability. Ability to advocate creatively, persuasively and effectively. Propensity to think and act dedicatedly and independently to support activities of in-house and external business partners. Collaborate with internal business partners on insurance product development, legislative and regulatory issues that impact the Company.
